PhD position in computational neuroscience
PHD POSITION AT THE LABORATORY FOR ACTION REPRESENTATION AND LEARNING, HERTIE INSTITUTE FOR CLINICAL BRAIN RESEARCH, TUEBINGEN, GERMANY
We offer a PhD Position in the context of a project on the expression of emotions by human movements. The project is funded by the Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) and realized in collaboration with the College de France, the Weizman Institute, and the University of Tilburg. Start date is 1st October 2004.
We seek for an individual with a background in computer science, engineering, physics, or mathematics with interest in motion capture, computer graphics, machine learning, motor control, or bioinformatics. The project will include developing new algorithms for modeling trajectories, and working with modern systems for motion capture and computer animation.
The Laboratory for Action Representation and Learning (ARL) provides a highly interdisciplinary research environment combining methods from theoretical and experimental neuroscience, computer graphics, computer vision, and machine learning. ARL studies the neural mechanisms of the perception of complex movements, and algorithms for the modeling of complex movements in normals and patients. The Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research is one of the largest centers for neurological research in Germany. Its four departments host more than 150 researchers focusing on many different aspects of modern neurology. ARL is closely affiliated with the Max Planck Institute for
Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen. Tübingen offers an international PhD program in the Graduate School for Neural and Behavioral Sciences that realized in collaboration between the University and the Max Planck Institutes.
Interested candidates should send or email CVs and the names of 2 references to Martin Giese, ARL, Dept. of Cognitive Neurology, University Clinic Tuebingen, Schaffhausenstr. 113, D-72076 Tuebingen,
Germany.
