Special issue of Visual Neuroscience to honor Bob Rodieck

Laura J Frishman

Reminder - Deadline for Submission extended to Nov. 1, 2004

CALL FOR PAPERS

VISUAL NEUROSCIENCE http://www.journals.cambridge.org

We propose to publish a special issue of Visual Neuroscience dedicated to the memory of Robert (Bob) W. Rodieck, Professor Emeritus of Ophthalmology at the University of Washington, who passed away in the Autumn of 2003. Bob's original research, and his two impressive books on the retina, one published in 1973, and one in 1998, have profoundly influenced generations of vision scientists. His research was characterized by a distinctive and inventive blend of descriptive and quantitative approaches, focusing to a large extent on the morphological and physiological classification of primate (and earlier, cat) retinal ganglion cells. His challenge to those of us who requested that he sign his 1998 book, "The First Steps in Seeing" was, "Here's to your efforts to put this book out of date". Now David Calkins, Anita Hendrickson and Laura Frishman request that you submit a manuscript to Visual Neuroscience by October 15, 2004 for inclusion in a special issue that honors that challenge.
